The Alaska Judiciary
Although Juneau is the capital of Alaska, the state supreme court hears cases on a monthly basis in the municipality of Anchorage, and approximately quarterly in Fairbanks and Juneau. It may also hear cases in other Alaska communities as needed. The Alaska Supreme Court prefers to hear appeal arguments in the city where the trial was held.
The court of appeals is a three-judge panel which hears appeals for decisions and judgements made by lower courts.
Alaska has four judicial districts with 34 elected superior court judges. The superior court is the trial court of general jurisdiction. Each district also has a district court which is a lower court of more limited jurisdiction.
